D&AD Student Awards 2013

Creatives the world over value the D&AD Student above any other. Winning truly marks you out as one of the best. Entry to the Student is open to anyone in full or part-time education. Whether you’re a copywriter or photographer, a digital specialist, product designer or something in-between – there’s a category for you.  And to make sure that all new talent gets a chance to shine, there’s Make Your Mark. As well as students, this brief is open to anyone under the age of 26 and to all recent graduates who finished their course within the last two years. Entry deadline – 20 March 2013.

Real briefs, set by real clients, judged by top creatives.

This is your chance to address a real life for a top, international brand.  You can work alone, or as part of a team.

Your ideas will be seen and judged by the representatives of the brand, along with a panel of top creatives from around the world.

Award Levels

Best of Year: The year’s best work for each brief. &

  • A year’s free D&AD Membership
  • Use of the D&AD Pencil Mark on your portfolio, blog, etc
  • Your portfolio on the Talent section of the D&AD website
  • Your winning work featured on the D&AD website and exhibited at D&AD events
  • A Certificate

Nomination: Work that rises above Best of Year standard and has the potential to win a Student Yellow Pencil. An invitation to the Graduate Academy

Student Yellow Pencil: Work that is outstanding, rather than merely brilliant, wins a Student Yellow Pencil. & – A place in the D&AD Annual 2013 alongside the professional Award winners – And of course, a coveted Student Yellow Pencil

Student of the Year:  The best of the best, the ultimate award.  The Student of the Year is selected from all the Pencil-winning entries. & £2,000 cash prize for the winning individual or team

What are the key dates?

Open for entries – w/c 18 February 2013
Entry deadline – 20 March 2013
Deadline for sending physical supporting material – 27 March 2013
Judging ­– 13-14 May 2013
Best of Year and Nominations announced – Late May 2013
Ceremony – 4 July 2013

Who can enter? 
Students, full or part-time, of any age, from anywhere in the world.
You need to be enrolled on a recognised undergrad, postgrad or Higher Education course (e.g. HND, BTEC, BA, BSc, MA, MSc, MD or equivalent) to be eligible.

Can I enter if I am not a student? 
Yes. The ‘Make Your Mark’ brief is also open to:
– Anyone under 26
– Recent graduates of any age (you must have graduated after 20 March 2011)

This is the only brief that non-students and graduates can enter.

Can we enter as a team? Yes, up to five people can enter together. Every team member needs to be eligible. On the Make Your Mark brief, students and non-students can work together.

Can I team up with friends from other universities? Yes, you can enter with anyone who’s eligible, even if they don’t study at the same uni or college as you. If you want to do this, you’ll need to let us know – get in touch at studentawards@dandad.org.

My school wasn’t in the list when I registered – can I still enter? Yes. Email us with all the details and we’ll get you sorted: studentawards@dandad.org.

Do I need a tutor to enter? Yes – unless you’re a non-student entering ‘Make Your Mark‘. You’ll need a tutor to support your entry. Get them to register and you’ll be able to add them to your entry later.

How much does it cost? The cost per entry is £20.

For D&AD New Creative Members, and those on Education Network Member courses, it’s only £12. Ask your tutor to see if your course is a member.
